Snapchat’s new Director Mode helps anyone become a video creator.

Throughout 2021–22, Snapchat has been working on improving the camera experience with lenses. As a continuation of these efforts, we’re creating a new type of editing video and posting it immediately in Spotlight or Stories.

What’s changing?

Throughout 2021–22, Snapchat has been working on improving the camera experience with lenses.Nearly two-thirds of Spotlight video submissions today use one of Snapchat’s creative tools or an AR Lens. The main idea of the Director Mode is to create a feature with AR. Would-be video creators don’t have to think about the technicalities involved in making a certain type of video — they can just tap a button to get started.

This project has helped broaden my system-level product thinking and will create a great AR experience for Video Creators. I was also able to foster strong collaborations by working with other teams tackling similar challenges.
